TV DISTRIBUTION

TV Distribution

Simultaneous and unchanged retransmission of radio and television channels

Simultaneous and unchanged retransmission (distribution) of radio and television channels on ordinary cable TV networks, IP networks and wireless networks, taking place outside of the “private sphere”, requires the consent of the broadcaster and other rightholders who have contributed to the programmes.

What is retransmission?

Retransmission is when radio and TV channels are received by means of a satellite dish or other type of communal antenna, and then distributed to affiliated TV sets, either wirelessly or through a cable.

Commercial and private networks

Agreements must be reached with rightholders, when TV channels are offered on a commercial cable network or a hotel (and similar places of overnight lodging) with two or more connections, as well as on privately owned cable networks that comprise more than 25 households.

Institutions and firms

Also firms, social institutions, prisons, asylum centres, military units, schools and so forth that have their own systems for retransmission, must clear the rights, depending on the size of the enterprise.

Agreements

Norwaco offers the following agreements to TV distributors:

  • Joint Agreement (Fellesavtalen), which entails the right to retransmission of foreign national channels, mostly “public service” channels, including ethnic channels.
  • Music Agreement (Musikkavtalen), which entails the clearing of music rights in international commercial channels.
