REMUNERATION

Remuneration

Who is entitled to remuneration from Norwaco?

By and large, Norwaco distributes remuneration collectively to the member organisations or their foundations. These in turn, distribute the money, often in the form of grants.

Contact your member organisation for more detailed information about what arrangements they have for administering remuneration funds. The member organisations of Norwaco can be found here.

Extended collective licence

The regulation regarding the extended collective licence ensures the right of both organised and non-organised rightholders to the remuneration that is collected by Norwaco.

Exceptions

Remuneration for the secondary use of Norwegian motion pictures are paid on an individual basis directly to the scriptwriters and the directors, while the other rightholder groups in movie productions – actors, crew, musicians, dancers and choreographers – are remunerated through their rightholder organisations.

Foreign rightholders

Foreign rightholders are also entitled to remuneration, parallel to how Norwegian rightholders are entitled to remuneration from countries where their works are used. Remuneration funds to and from Norway go through exchange agreements Norwaco has with corresponding organisations in other countries.

Private copying remuneration

Rightholders can also be allocated remuneration through private copying remuneration, which is a compensation for legal copies made for private use. Norwaco administers this arrangement, and compensation is allocated through the national budget. Norwaco’s member organisations distribute the funds to the individual rightholders.
