Use of Norwegian motion pictures

Norwaco is responsible of collecting remuneration from the use of Norwegian motion pictures on video (world wide) and by satellite broadcast (when Norway is part of the satellite’s coverage area), as well as other forms of public viewing.

Who is responsible?

The movie producer, or someone who has undertaken or purchased the producer’s rights to a motion picture, is responsible for the payment of remuneration.

To whom does the agreement apply?

An agreement has been negotiated with the Norwegian Film and TV Producers’ Association (Produsentforeningen). It applies to their members. Corresponding agreement conditions are offered to non-organised producers.

Which rightholders are included?

Norwaco’s collection of remuneration includes those rightholders who have not transferred their rights to the producer of the motion picture.

Distribution of the remuneration

The remuneration is distributed by Norwaco to the rightholders. The holders of the scriptwriter’s and director’s rights get their remuneration individually whereas remuneration to actors, musicians, dancers, cinematographers and so forth are channelled through the corresponding rightholders’ organisations or foundations.
